One of the most well-known flags from this period is the "Calcutta Flag" or "Lotus Flag," which featured three horizontal stripes of green, yellow, and red, with a lotus flower and the words "Vande Mataram" (Hail to the Mother)

The British rule in India, which lasted from 1858 to 1947, was a period of significant economic, cultural, and social change. The British East India Company's initial foothold in India gradually gave way to direct rule by the British Crown, with Queen Victoria being proclaimed the Empress of India in 1877. During this period, the British exploited India's natural resources, imposed their own system of governance and education, and suppressed Indian culture and traditions. The British also introduced railways, telegraphs, and other modern infrastructure, but these developments largely benefited British interests rather than the Indian people.
